My Alternative Valentines Day Evening

As a long term relationship regular it's shocking for me to find myself single on Valentines day. I'm a hopeless romantic and was expecting to feel a little down about it all, but surprisingly I'm not. I've come to the conclusion over the last few weeks that having a partner in my life isn't the be all and end all. Celebrating the one you love on 14th February can just as easily be spent pampering yourself instead of a partner; I mean if I'm saving cash on that lovely London getaway and dinner at Ottolonghi then I can definitely afford myself a face mask and a bubble bath, right?

So here's my evening plans for this February the 14th. The one and only evening I'll be turning my phone off to spend some quality time with myself....

Baths are one of my favourite things. My best friend Sascha bought me the Brightside Bubble Bar from Lush a few weeks ago and I've been waiting for the right time to open it. It's such a happy, warm scent that I know will cheer me up on a day where I might be feeling a little fragile. Bring on the scented candles and 2 hour soak!

I tend to neglect my hair so this is the perfect time to give it some love. I recently purchased the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration hair mask which I'm still yet to use. I'll wash my hair with the OGX Keratin Oil shampoo and conditioner* before running the mask through the ends. I'll leave it in right until the end of my bath to make sure my hair gets the TLC it needs.

I haven't included a face mask in my little arrangement above but a pamper evening wouldn't be complete without one. I have a few that I'm enjoying using at the moment; the Sanctuary Spa Thermal Detox Mask being one. I also have a few single use ones from Boots that I may consider using; I'll see how my skin is feeling on the day. I'll apply this just after my hair mask and close my eyes for 5 or so minutes while the product sinks into my skin.

There's nothing I love more than moisturising my whole body after a long bath. My grandmother kindly gave me a little bag of Clarins goodies the other day which included their Tonic Treatment Oil for the body and in my opinion it's just as good as the face oil. The scent makes you feel like you're in a spa and it makes your skin feel lovely and soft.

As I've been having trouble sleeping it's likely I'll be getting an early night. I've really been enjoying reading Estee Lalonde's book "Bloom" recently. It's just such a lovely, positive collection of stories and experiences from her life. After my pamper session I'll be getting into my favourite pyjamas, climbing into bed and reading a few pages of this.

I hope you all have a lovely Valentines Day, however you're spending it.

  1. Great post Sophy! I like the idea of a pamper session on Valentine’s Day and I totally get wanting to treat yourself to something nice, all those beauty products sound fab. I want to read Estee’s new book too, as it looks amazing. My day was like any other really, although I did enjoy two Valentine’s themed baking projects which I did earlier in the month. Some people say the day is a bit over commercial, but I like seeing all the sweet little gifts and treats in the shops. Hope you had some nice chill time, mine was quite a peaceful one too. I’m looking forward to Pancake Day and Easter now! :-) xx
